Things to do in the area

Ockham overlooks Bodiam Castle, a perfect example of a 14th-century moated  castle, which is owned by the National Trust.  Also nearby is the Kent and East  Sussex Railway, which runs steam trains between Bodiam and Tenterden in Kent,  one of the finest remaining examples of a local rural line in the country.  In the last century the area around Bodiam was also famous for hop production, and the hundreds of Londoners who came down for the hop-picking season made use of the railway to get to the hop gardens.   There are many beautiful and interesting gardens (Great Dixter and Sissinghurst are both amazing and well worth a visit), villages and walks to explore, with numerous good  pubs and eateries.  We are very lucky to be situated in such a lovely part of the country!
